About Singapore

The lion insignia and the crescent moon with five stars – two symbols of Singapore
Singapore is a modern island city-state in Southeast Asia, located just north of the equator. It is a fairly young nation having gained full independence in 1965, and is a small state at just over 700 sqaure kilometers. In its short history, and despite its size, Singapore has achieved much in developing itself into a nation often known for being resilient and resourceful, actively building its international reputation as a financial centre and business hub on a foundation of solid infrastructure, strong government and cohesive and industrious people.

Singapore has a population of about 4.86 million. Its ethnic blend is culturally rich, and people of diverse heritage practise and preserve their traditions and values, while embracing the best from cosmopolitan modernity.
