Singapore is a safe and secure place for families to raise their children. Singapore has one of the lowest crime rates. Compared to some major Asia-Pacific cities, Singapore has been ranked safer than Tokyo, Osaka, Seoul, Hongkong, Sydney and Honolulu.
Law and order is necessary to help ensure a safe society. But Singapore is also gradually moving towards a more humane legal system. For example, there is now a Community Court to hear cases involving minors and minor disputes. The new court handles a range of alternative sentences such as probation, counselling and community service.
Of course, there are punishments for certain offences that are non negotiable despite what critics may say. They include the death sentence for drug trafficking, murder and firearms offences. Singapore will stand firm to ensure that its people are well-protected from any real threat to society.
